Informal Reconsideration of Library Materials
A challenge from a district employee, parent/guardian of a district student, or district resident about the appropriateness of an instructional resource shall try to resolve the matter informally using the following procedure:
-
Meeting with principal. The principal or designee shall explain the selection process and the intended educational purpose of the material.
-
If appropriate, the principal or designee shall offer a concerned parent an alternative library material, if available, to be used by that parent’s child in place of the challenged material.
-
If the complainant wishes to make a formal challenge, the principal or designee shall make available to the complainant a copy of this policy and a form to request a formal reconsideration of the material.
